PETRA THE LOST CITY
The trips organized by the package companies are very expensive, Thomsons charge £179 each, plus visa and exit charges to Jordan costs about £15 ouch! A local tour company may be a cheaper option at about £140 each.
The coach picks you up at around 6.30 a.m. to catch the 7.30 a.m. boat to Jordan, the boat arrives in Jordan at 8. 30 a.m. After leaving the boat there is another 2.5 hours by coach to Petra with a toilet stop en route.
When you get off the coach there is a 2.5 km down hill walk through a magnificent canyon into Petra itself.
You may have seen photographs of Petra but that does not do it justice, it is truly spectacular. The only downside is the journey time is so long, you do not get that much time there, a typical stay lasts about 3.5 hours.
On the return journey most tours include a lunch in either the Marriot or the Movenpick hotel. Drinks are not included and are expensive.
The return ferry leaves at about 7.30 pm. So you should arrive back at your hotel at around 9.00 pm.
A long day but one you will never forget.
